Career history

I joined Clive Owen in 2012 as a trainee accountant under the apprenticeship scheme. In 2015 I qualified as an Accounting Technician and became a member of the AAT, before swiftly moving on to the route towards becoming a chartered accountant. I spent the majority of my career at Clive Owen in the audit and accounts department, but gained a well-rounded experience within the firm, dabbling in payroll, company secretarial services and managed services. In 2021 I was promoted to Assistant Manager and moved across to specialise in grants advisory services. I was then promoted to manager in 2023.

Experience and expertise

In my previous role within the audit and accounts department I was primarily involved in working with owner managed businesses, from SMEs up to larger companies, charities, and academy schools to deliver their year end reporting requirements.

Now as part of the Grants Advisory Services Team I work with clients to help them deliver successful grant funding applications in support of their investment projects. I also work with applicants who have been through the first round of approval for grant funding to prepare appraisal and due diligence reports are part of the application process.

Within the grants team I lead on our independent accountants reporting or grant audit service, helping clients to stay complaint with the terms of their grant funding and also maximise their grant claims.

Outside of grants related work, I support clients with their management accounting, forecasting and business planning needs.

Career highlights

Passing all my professional exams first time. Training and helping new colleagues to develop their own careers has always been a highlight for me.

Did you always want to be an accountant?

Once I decided that being an astronaut (or second best, an astronomer) was not the route for me, being an accountant was always on the cards. The most daring career decision I took was to skip the university route (much to my teachers’ surprise) and train as an apprentice accountant – a decision I never regretted!

Hobbies and interests

I was always the arts and crafts kid and still enjoy painting and making things with my hands. I also love a good book and exploring new places at home and abroad.
