Tax Trainee

We are recruiting for the following position for our Darlington office.

Location: Darlington

We are looking to recruit for the above role which will work in our busy tax department.  The current tax team of 9 (6 qualified accountants/tax advisers and 3 trainee tax advisers) provides compliance and advisory services to private individuals, unincorporated businesses, trusts and companies.

We have significant experience of developing trainees throughout the firm and you will be supported by not only an experienced tax team, but also the wider firm, to aid your development.

It is anticipated that the role will start in summer 2021 and be office-based as COVID-19 restrictions relax.

The key duties of the role are:

The role will initially involve undertaking tax compliance work.  This includes completing personal tax returns for the firm’s client base, dealing with queries from clients and HMRC, dealing with routine correspondence and undertaking data input and analysis work.  Exposure to corporate tax compliance, tax advisory and accounting will be offered as the role progresses.

We are keen to hear from applicants who are ATT qualified (level 3 or 4) or who will be graduating this summer with a relevant degree at 2.1 or above.

The successful candidate will have:

• 3 A levels at grade A-C (or equivalent) or an equivalent qualification
• A willingness to learn and enthusiasm to pursue a career in tax
• Previous work experience, accounts or tax work experience would be advantageous
• Excellent communication and written skills
• Excellent IT skills
• Excellent numerical skills

Full training will be provided and includes full study support for the relevant qualifications (either ATT/CTA or ICAEW ACA/CTA Joint Programme).  This is undertaken as an apprenticeship and includes course fees, study materials, exam fees, travel expenses, study leave and annual student membership.

We will provide full study support for ATT or ACA depending on the level of qualification held by the successful candidate.
