2 October 2026
Whilst the tax return deadline of 31 January 2027 is well known, there is a closer deadline of 31 October 2026 for those that choose to file their tax returns on paper.
Individuals may choose to file their tax return on paper because:
- They cannot use the HMRC online service, perhaps due to no reliable internet access or limited digital skills.
- The return they file cannot be supported online – for instance, non-resident landlords cannot use the HMRC online service.
- Technical issues.
- Personal preference.
According to HMRC figures, over 300,000 2024/25 tax returns were filed on paper to HMRC. This is around 2.5% of people that filed a 2024/25 tax return.
If you need support completing your tax return (we file electronically so have until 31 January 2027) and cannot file on paper ahead of 31 October 2026, please reach out to our team for support.
