Early Careers & Trainee Advisor

Type: Full time

Location: Darlington

Role Profile: Early Careers & Trainee Advisor
Reports to: Learning & Development Manager

About this role:

Do you enjoy working with people at the start of their careers and seeing them grow into confident professionals? Are you someone who loves building relationships, creating structure and making sure people have the right support to succeed? We’re looking for an Early Careers & Trainee Advisor to take ownership of our early careers activity and the day-to-day running of our trainee programme.

You will help us build a strong pipeline of future talent by developing relationships with schools, colleges and universities and making sure we’re attracting the right people into Clive Owen. You’ll take ownership of the trainee recruitment process, from attraction through to selection, offer and onboarding, ensuring we bring the right people into the business.

You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end trainee experience, from professional study and apprenticeships through to progression and qualification, making sure trainees are supported, challenged and held accountable to achieve their potential.

This is a role with real ownership across the full early career’s lifecycle. You’ll shape how we attract, select, develop and retain our future talent, working closely with managers and the L&D Manager to ensure everything is joined up and effective.

What you’ll be doing:

Recruitment & Building our Future Talent Pipeline

  • Building relationships with schools, colleges, universities and other organisations to create a strong pipeline of future talent
  • Planning and attending careers fairs, recruitment events and other early careers activities
  • Developing and maintaining a proactive early careers pipeline to ensure a consistent flow of high-quality candidates into trainee roles
  • Looking for new ways to raise our profile with students and potential future trainees
  • Working with careers teams and external partners to strengthen long-term talent pipelines
  • Working with managers to understand future trainee requirements and plan recruitment activity ahead of time
  • Coordinating trainee recruitment from application through to offer
  • Advertising trainee opportunities through the right channels
  • Reviewing and sifting CVs and applications against agreed requirements
  • Planning and organising assessment days and interviews
  • Keeping candidates informed throughout the process and creating a positive candidate experience
  • Working with managers throughout the selection process and ensuring they have everything they need
  • Working with the HR Administrator to ensure offers, contracts and pre-employment administration are completed smoothly
  • Using insight from recruitment activity to inform future attraction strategies and improve the quality of intake
  • Building relationships with successful candidates before they join and keeping them engaged between offer and start date

Trainees

  • Taking ownership of the day-to-day running of our trainee programme
  • Acting as the main point of contact for trainees throughout their training journey
  • Coordinating trainee onboarding and induction and ensuring new trainees are set up for success
  • Managing the day-to-day relationship with Kaplan and other training and apprenticeship providers
  • Booking courses, exams and coordinating professional study activity
  • Tracking professional study, apprenticeship requirements, key dates and programme milestones
  • Maintaining accurate trainee, training and apprenticeship records
  • Coordinating trainee learning pathways and ensuring development activity happens at the right stages
  • Working with our QPRT and other stakeholders to support professional and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinating trainee salary structures and agreed progression points
  • Working with the HR Administrator to ensure salary and employee changes are processed accurately
  • Keeping trainees and managers informed about key deadlines, requirements and programme stages
  • Gathering feedback from trainees and managers and using it to continually improve the trainee experience
  • Identifying issues or concerns early and ensuring they are addressed appropriately
  • Supporting trainees through key stages of their development journey and helping them understand where to go for support
  • Working with trainee managers to ensure roles and expectations are clear, while recognising that day-to-day performance management remains with the line manager
  • Keeping the L&D Manager informed of key themes, risks and opportunities while maintaining ownership of the programme
  • Supporting trainees to navigate their professional development journey and helping them build confidence as they progress through qualification
  • Continuously improving how we support, develop and retain trainees through to qualification and beyond

This role will suit you if you if:

  • Love working with people at the start of their careers and get real satisfaction from seeing them succeed
  • Enjoy building relationships and developing strong connections with schools, colleges, universities and external partners
  • Are confident representing the firm and engaging with potential future trainees
  • Enjoy recruitment and understand the importance of a great candidate experience
  • Are highly organised and comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Take ownership and enjoy seeing things through from start to finish
  • Are approachable and someone people feel comfortable coming to for support
  • Can build strong relationships with trainees, managers and external providers
  • Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in accurate record keeping
  • Are confident working independently and making decisions within your area of responsibility, however, know when to escalate appropriately
  • Enjoy improving processes and finding better ways of doing things
  • Can balance supporting trainees with encouraging accountability and ownership
  • Want the opportunity to shape and improve an early careers offering rather than simply administer an existing programme

Experience in early careers, recruitment, apprenticeships, learning coordination or HR would be helpful. Experience working with professional qualifications or training providers such as Kaplan would be an advantage but is not essential.

If you’re excited by the opportunity to build a strong early careers pipeline and then support those individuals from their first interaction with Clive Owen through to qualification, we’d love to hear from you.
