Career history

I joined Clive Owen in July 2007 having graduated from Newcastle University. I began as a trainee and passed all my ACA exams in November 2010, qualifying in September 2011.

I was appointed as a manager in April 2013 before being appointed senior manager in October 2016 and Director in April 2020.

Experience and expertise

I have experience in advising a broad spectrum of clients and owner-managed businesses, from companies right through to groups with turnover in excess of £30m.

I advise on year-end accounts preparation, management accounts, tax planning and audit services.

I also have significant experience in auditing and assisting academies.

Professional memberships

Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales.

Director of York Professionals since December 2018.

Corporate social responsibility.

I was the treasurer of the City of York Hockey Club (CoYHC) between 2009 and 2011.

In June 2019 I was elected as Chair of CoYHC.

Passing all of my exams first time and progressing from trainee to director with the same firm.

Did you always want to be an accountant?

Not uncommonly as a youngster, I dreamt of becoming a professional sportsman, but unfortunately this was not going to become a reality.

During my school studies, I developed a keen interest in politics and considered a career either as a teacher or some sort of advisory role within politics.

As it turned out, I decided to study for my ACA exams to give me an insight into business and since then haven’t looked back.

Hobbies and interests

I am a keen follower of cricket and football (long-suffering York City fan).

I have played as a goalkeeper in field hockey since the age of 16, and have been a regular in the City of York’s 1st and 2nd XIs as well as taking on various volunteer roles within the Club during that time.

More recently I have also taken up running. I now run the annual York 10k, and the York office also takes part in the ‘Corporate Relay’ in the Yorkshire Marathon every year since 2016.
