Career history
I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1996 and joined Clive Owen as an audit senior in the Darlington office. Shortly after I moved to the York office and in 2000 after making a move to tax and passing my Chartered Tax Adviser exams in 1999. Whilst at the York office I became tax partner there in 2002 and then was moved to Durham Office in 2006.

Experience and expertise
I spend most of my time advising both companies and individuals with their tax planning. I have a particular interest in research and development tax credits and also look after some general practice clients where tax is an important consideration.

Membership: ICAEW and CIOT
Corporate social responsibility
I joined the employer panel at Newcastle University Business School to help with input for their Graduate Diploma in Finance, Accounting and Business giving feedback on what employers want to see in prospective candidates as well as helping the students.
Career highlights
Being the first person in the firm to qualify as a Chartered Tax Adviser.
I really enjoy seeing clients who save tax particularly through R & D claims reinvesting that saving back into their businesses creating further expansion and jobs.
Did you always want to be an accountant?
No, but I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers so accountancy and tax was an obvious choice.
Hobbies and interests
European travel, running, walking, theatre and helping out on the family farm.
