Career History

I started my career in tax in 2015, after a career reboot in my early 30s, having previously dabbled in accountancy after A-Levels, undertaken a university degree at York, and working in application support for an accounting software company.

After joining a national firm in the Private Clients team, I qualified as a Chartered tax advisor in 2022, and moved into the newly created Employer Solutions team shortly after.

I remained in that role until joining Clive Owen LLP in September 2025 as a Tax Manager.

Experience and Expertise

My clients in personal tax have included owner managed business directors, self-employed individuals and partnerships, residential property landlords, investors, pensioners and overseas individuals taking into account double taxation aspects and residency tests.

In employment tax, I have managed the P11D and PAYE settlement agreement compliance for businesses, advised and implemented salary sacrifice schemes (particularly with regards pensions and low emission company cars) and reviews of employment status/IR35 implications and due diligence processes generally to assist corporate finance deals.

Career Highlights

Pulling together a very fragmented benefits compliance process at my previous firm to bring it under a single team, which helped streamline the P11D/PSA offering to our clients and offering a consistent service and level of expertise.

Also, rolling out many pension salary sacrifice schemes with our clients too, being part of the process from start to finish, including staff presentations, whether on-site or online, providing savings for both employers and their employees.

But also just helping individuals with their tax obligations and building that relationship with them, has always been an enjoyable part of the job.

Did you always want to be an accountant?

Once any sporting dreams went out the window due to extreme lack of ability, I had to take stock.  But I always enjoyed numbers and logic as a child, and I do enjoy a challenge, so although I went round the houses a bit getting round to working in tax, it all made sense in the end!

Hobbies and Interests

I have three young children, so that takes up the majority of my free time these days, but still follow and attempt to play most sports, playing darts for a local pub team when I can (although I appreciate it’s status as a sport is disputed) and follower of Newcastle United (despite coming originally from Peterborough – I’ve a good reason though so feel free to ask).

Love a pub quiz and have partaken and hosted many over the years!  Hope to get on the Chase or Pointless one day!
