Darlington Chartered Accountants support local foodbank

Date posted: 20th Dec 2023

Colleagues from Clive Owen LLP in Darlington have again supported a local organisation helping people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

The chartered accountants and business advisers held a collection for King’s Foodbank after approaching it to find out what was most needed. The Clive Owen team came together to collect donations, including hats, gloves and Christmas treats such as mince pies.

A cash contribution has also been made to the foodbank, based in Prospect Place, off Whessoe Road. This is from the profits of the regular tuckshop run by senior tax manager, Elizabeth Layfield and a further donation from colleagues who have decided to forward funds to the foodbank in lieu of receiving a Christmas gift.

Alongside the donations, members of the Darlington team spent a day volunteering with the foodbank as part of the firm’s newly launched volunteering scheme. Ten team members worked with the foodbank staff, sorting and packing food parcels and children’s gifts that will go out to those in need over the busy Christmas period.

Carl Wright heads up Clive Owen LLP’s sustainability programme and, supported by the firm’s Sustainability Strategy Squad, is working across the firm to give more back to communities. He said: “Clive Owen LLP has always been a key pillar of our Darlington community, having been operating in the town for 40 years. This year, with an increasing number of children growing up in families facing hunger and forced to turn to food banks to survive, it feels like even more of an imperative to give back what we can. It was great to be able to give this donation to King’s Food Bank and support the fantastic work they do in one of their busiest months of the year.”

Food Bank manager, Caroline Todd said: We are extremely blessed to have Clive Owen LLP’s generous support of our foodbank, not only with donations of food items that we are running low on but with volunteering too. The assistance provided by Clive Owen employees allowed us to make significant progress on providing our foodbank clients with Christmas hampers and were a real pleasure to have working alongside us.”

The food bank is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 1pm – 3pm, although staff are there Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm for support services and referrals.
