In case you missed it – trading licence renewals and HMRC checks….

Date posted: 17th Mar 2022

As we advised in October 2021, those individuals that renew licences to drive taxis and private hire vehicles or to deal in scrap metal, will be subject to checks that they are registered with HMRC before a licence can be renewed – the original article is here https://www.cliveowen.com/2021/10/renewing-a-licence-make-sure-you-are-registered-with-hmrc/

It is very important that such checks are completed or the business may need to cease trading. There is further guidance available on the HMRC website.

For those applying for licences see:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/changes-for-taxi-private-hire-or-scrap-metal-licence-applications-from-april-2022

For those authorising the licence see:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/changes-when-dealing-with-taxi-private-hire-or-scrap-metal-licence-applications-from-april-2022

If you are not registered with HMRC and need to register to declare your income, then you will need to make a disclosure to HMRC, as soon as possible, to bring your tax affairs up to date.
