VAT online account – going, going, gone

Date posted: 11th Oct 2022

HMRC are reminding businesses that as of 1 November 2022, they will be unable to access the HMRC VAT online account to submit monthly or quarterly VAT returns.

Going forward, all VAT registered businesses must use Making Tax Digital (“MTD”) compatible software or bridging software to submit VAT returns to HMRC.

Any businesses that are not compliant with MTD for VAT, will likely be subject to penalties for non-compliance, unless they are regarded as exempt. Sadly, the VAT exemptions are very limited and rarely approved by HMRC.

We have helped many businesses comply with MTD rules and if you would like assistance in setting up appropriate software, we can help.

If you have any queries regarding VAT or MTD, please give us a call.
